In the interests of safety for your baby, quilts*, duvets and pillows are not recommended for use as bedding for babies before the baby is 1 year old. Babies in this age range are more at risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

*(i.e., those with a layer of wadding in between two layers of fabric held together with stitching)

The cause of SIDS is not yet fully understood. The theory is that some babies may not have sufficiently developed their breathing to be able to breath through denser materials, such as pillows, quilts or duvets. It is also very important to ensure that your baby does not get too hot. It is therefore advisable not to use these items as bedding for babies until they are at least 1 year old.

More advice is available from The Lullaby Trust (formerly FSID) who provide expert advice on safer sleep for babies.  Further information can be found at http://www.lullabytrust.org.uk/safer-sleep

Our products

Our baby blankets are made from a layer of cotton patchwork and a layer of soft minky or fleece. There’s no wadding layer so they are more suitable for younger babies. Our quilts contain a layer of wadding between the upper and lower layers and are therefore not recommended for babies under 1 year old.

Runny Babbits quilts and blankets are designed with nursery decor very much in mind. Many of our blankets have a matching quilt (sold separately) that your baby can progress to once he is one year old. The blanket (being smaller and lighter) will remain useful as a travel or nap blanket.

The co-ordinating boudoir cushions in our range are designed to be used as support for nursing Mums, and for decorative purposes. They are not designed for babies and should NEVER be left in babies cot.
